Information
As part of the latest macOS upgrade, the IT Team at Gen3 Marketing are testing new software for applying macOS updates and notifying you once it's ready.
Why are we doing this?
We are trialing this software to speed up the application of updates across our Mac portfolio with the aim to reduce the amount of time that a Mac goes offline for when applying updates.
What you will see
For users that have been selected in the trial, you will see the following dialog box appear when the Mac is due to restart;
This replaces the current dialog box, shown below;
Compared to the current dialog box, you will notice that you will no longer need to click Update Device in order to download and apply the update, you will simply see two options, Restart and Defer. If you choose Restart, then you will be given a short amount of time to save any open documents before the computer restarts. Alternatively, you can click Defer. This will then defer the dialog box for 6 hours. You can defer the update up to 5 times before the computer must be restarted in order to apply the update. The update must also be installed by the date and time shown on the screen. If you fail to make a selection within 10 minutes then the Defer option will be chosen by default.
